Dental Cleanings & Special Treatments

Preventative Cleaning- Oral health evaluation: At each hygiene visit, we will determine the health of your gums and surrounding bone. This safeguards against periodontal disease, or infection of oral soft tissue. The pockets between your gums and teeth are regularly measured to determine if any periodontal disease is present. We also use the Diagnodent Laser to identify decay.
We consider your checkup an opportunity to ensure that you are free of any kind of dental damage: prevention/early detection is the crucial step in fighting oral disease. We will also evaluate the effectiveness of your dental care regimen, and discuss proper brushing and flossing.

Ultrasonic teeth cleaning: Our revolutionary ultrasonic instrumentation uses vibrational energy to remove tartar (hardened plaque) and stains from your teeth. This cleaning also flushes bacteria trapped below the gums, promoting tissue health and safeguarding against future periodontitis (bone loss).

Fluoride treatments: Depending on the strength of your tooth enamel, amount of restorations, and other factors, we may recommend a prescription-strength fluoride treatment to enhance your defenses against decay. In addition, we may enhance your home care with prescription-strength fluoride toothpaste, mouthwash, or home treatment. Fluoride protects teeth against decay and reduces sensitivity.

Polishing: We end appointments by polishing your teeth and restorations to send you off with smoother teeth, making your home care easier.

Deep cleaning: A deep teeth cleaning treats periodontal diseases and prevents further damage. It reaches below the gums to attack the disease between teeth and gums. Deep cleaning is appropriate to treat periodontal disease.

Scaling and root planing: Deep scaling removes plaque and tartar from the tooth and deep pockets below the gum line, as opposed to the superficial tooth only. To make this procedure comfortable, we will anesthetize the treated areas. In addition, we will use ultrasonic technology in combination with an antibacterial rinse to treat the deep pockets.

Antibiotic placements: If we notice an area of bone loss, we may recommend a time-released antibiotic gel be placed between the teeth and gums to kill remaining bacteria, promote healing and prevent re-infection of the area.

Laser: As a powerful adjunct to decrease oral bacteria by decontaminating the periodontal pockets as preventative therapy or for periodontal disease as a treatment of diseased tissue.

DIAGNOdent: Health conscious patients place value on healthy and attractive teeth. In order to achieve optimal health, prevention is essential. DIAGNOdent aids in the detection of cavities. You don’t have to wait till your tooth hurts to fix the issue. Even very small lesions are detected at the earliest stage, enabling you to protect and preserve the tooth substance.
